Manchester United's Jesse Lingard says Saturday's 1-0 FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea was the "worst he has felt" in football.
Eden Hazard's first-half penalty was enough to end Jose Mourinho's perfect record in English cup finals, leaving United to finish the season without a trophy.
Lingard, who came off after 73 minutes on Saturday, argued the result was not a fair reflection of the match and thanked United's fans for their support throughout the campaign in an Instagram post on Sunday.
"Don't know what to say, worst feeling I've felt in football to date," said Lingard.
"We didn't deserve to lose but that's football. The fans have been amazing all season they have stuck by us through the ups and downs and I can only say thank you.
"Quick turn around for the world cup so looking forward to meeting up with the boys and doing the best we can in the tournament ."
Lingard, who registered six assists this season, was United's second top scorer in all competitions with 13 goals.
