Timothy Fosu-Mensah believes Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has an unfair reputation for not giving youth players a chance.
The 19-year-old Dutchman made his United debut in a 3-2 win over Arsenal in February 2016 and went on to make eight Premier League appearances under Louis van Gaal.
Fosu-Mensah was limited to four Premier League appearances last season but he points to the fact no United player made more overall appearances than Marcus Rashford's 53 as evidence of Mourinho's willingness to give youth an opportunity.
"Marcus played the most games last season so I think what they say about him is not true. He gives youth a chance," Fosu-Mensah said.
"I think as a young player you have to grab the chance with both hands."
Fosu-Mensah is currently on United's pre-season tour of the United States and has featured in all three games so far against LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake and Manchester City.
The Holland U21 international has been picked primarily at right-back by Mourinho but is also comfortable at centre-half and in central midfield.
He views his versatility as an asset and is happy to play wherever he is needed.
When asked about his favourite position, Fosu-Mensah said: "I like them all. If the manager wants me to play centre-back I will play there. If he wants me to play defensive midfield I will play there. If he needs to play right-back I will play there.
"I can play them all so it is not a problem."
