The best of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Manchester United

Following news Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be leaving Manchester United, we look back at his best moments for the club.

"Time to let the world know. My next destination is Manchester United. #iamcoming." In true Zlatan style, it was Ibrahimovic, not Manchester United, that announced his transfer last summer, setting the tempo for a season in which the Swede would call the shots - until injury curtailed his campaign.

The 35-year-old was reunited with long-time admirer Jose Mourinho almost immediately after the former Inter Milan boss arrived in Manchester, becoming the second United signing under the "Special One".

It was Ibrahimovic who proved the man for the special occasion time and time again though, even managing to steal the limelight in United's Europa League final win when he cast his crutches aside to join the post-match celebrations.

Here, Sky Sports delves back into an unforgettable year after United dared to Zlatan...

Wembley welcome

"Zlatan needs no introduction," said Mourinho upon the striker's arrival, against doubts raised over whether he could still perform in the Premier League. Whether or not Ibrahimovic needed it, the new United No 9 marked his arrival in style.

Heading into extra time against reigning Premier League champions Leicester City in the Community Shield final, and at the home of English football, Ibrahimovic showed he was here to be the matchwinner.

Towering at the back post, the Swede powered home a header with just seven minutes remaining to give Mourinho, in August, his first of what would be three trophies.

Goodison stunner

After a blistering start to his first Premier League season, scoring four goals in his first four games, the goals dried up for Ibrahimovic during September and October.

The forward came back firing in November though before a superb long-range effort against Everton proved to be his most spectacular goal for United.

Pace might have taken Ibrahimovic past the onrushing Maarten Stekelenburg for an easy open-goal finish, but the United striker instead produced a stunning lob which (just) made it over the line. Ibrahimovic never looked concerned.

Rival blow

If there is one way to endear yourself to the Manchester United supporters, it is a goal against their Merseyside rivals in the 50th Premier League encounter between these heavyweights.

James Milner had given Liverpool a narrow lead in front of the Old Trafford crowd back in January, which Liverpool defended with gusto much to the frustration of Mourinho - who tussled with Jurgen Klopp on the touchline.

But Mourinho was able to turn to his talisman to ensure a 16-game unbeaten run continued as Ibrahimovic once again provided a vital goal to earn a point for United - squeezing a late header into a pocket of space between the bodies of Liverpool's goal-line defenders.

Hat-trick hero

There was a statue-sized shadow cast over the "Zlatan Arena" as Manchester United claimed the Europa League final in Stockholm without their injured striker who had steered them through those dreaded early-round trips to the far reaches of the continent. Ukrainian side Zorya were seen off by Ibrahimovic's decisive strikes in the group stages long before the competition ultimately became the only objective of Mourinho's season.

The Champions League is a competition Ibrahimovic is more used to frequenting, but the former Barcelona man showed no bias in Europe's secondary club competition - which proved to bear the forward's only United hat-trick.

Much was made before the game of Paul Pogba lining up against brother, and Saint Etienne defender, Florentin, in the Round of 32, but Ibrahimovic grabbed all three goals to steal the show.

Who else would seal Mourinho's first major trophy? Southampton proved trickier opposition than the United boss would have hoped, with Ibrahimovic's opener followed by two Saints goals either side of a Jesse Lingard strike to tee the game up at a nicely poised 2-2.

Once again heading into extra time at Wembley, it took the familiar hero, Ibrahmiovic, to ensure United claimed silverware when he headed home with three minutes remaining.

He did warn he was coming.
