He may have been an unused substitute in the EFL Cup final, but club captain Wayne Rooney was still on hand to lift the trophy for Manchester United after their 3-2 win over Southampton.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice, including a late winner, as the United secured their first major trophy under Jose Mourinho at Wembley on Sunday.
Ibrahimovic and Jesse Lingard had put United in control after Southampton were controversially denied an opener via Manolo Gabbiadini, but the Italian striker netted either side of half-time to drag the Saints level.
Rooney - who this week confirmed he would stay at United amid interest from China - was being prepared to come on before Ibrahimovic's 87th-minute header, at which point Mourinho opted to send on Marouane Fellaini to defend their lead.
It was the first major piece of silverware Rooney had lifted as United captain on his own, having shared the honour with Michael Carrick for last season's FA Cup.
