Jose Mourinho said Northampton Town should have had a man sent off in their 3-1 EFL Cup defeat to Manchester United.
United, who will face Manchester City in the fourth round, went into Wednesday night's game on the back of three straight defeats, but took an early lead through Michael Carrick at Sixfields.
Alex Revell pulled the Cobblers level from the penalty spot, but second-half goals from Ander Herrera and Marcus Rashford secured the win.
Mourinho felt the hosts should have been reduced to 10 men when Jak McCourt was only booked for a strong tackle on Memphis Depay shortly after half-time.
"The game should have been easier," he said. "We should have been playing against 10 men very early in the second half. The red card was a dangerous situation."
While Mourinho commented on the tackle by McCourt, he declined to offer his thoughts on Northampton's goal, which came from the penalty spot after a foul by Daley Blind.
"I should stop speaking about referees' decisions and wait for you to speak about them," he said. "Some with honest vision, some with a dishonest vision.
"I'm not speaking about the penalty against Man City, I am speaking about the situation that could end in an important injury. I should stop, and leave it with you."
United had been eliminated to lower-division opponents in five of the last 10 seasons in this competition, but were largely in control against League One Northampton.
"We deserved to win," said Mourinho. "It was difficult, as I was expecting, but we were totally in control for the first 35 minutes, then we were again in control for the last 45.
"They fought and played to their strength, tried to cause us problems, which they did sometimes. It was a difficult match but overall a positive performance."
