Phil Jones says Manchester United are moving closer to Louis van Gaal's imagined side after reaching the summit of the Premier League for the first time in over two years.
United have 16 points from seven games, and face their biggest test of the season on Super Sunday against Arsenal at the Emirates.
When asked if the current side is Van Gaal's final image, Jones told Soccer Saturday it was, and that the understanding between manager and players is good.
"Yes. He knows his team, he knows his players well, the players know him well. We've got a good understanding and a good relationship with him. That's great for the team and the fans as well," said Jones.
"It's always going to take time, it's never going to be easy with a new manager coming in and wanting to get his stamp on the team. But he's done that and we're all pulling in the right direction and hoping to maintain this form.
"He knows exactly what he wants. He's very vocal in the dressing room, and he's honest, and as players you can't ask for much more. We respond well to him and vice versa."
After an unpredictable first two months to the campaign throughout the division, Jones says United deserve to be top of the Premier League, especially having gained results from games they have not dominated.
"Overall we've had a successful start to the season. I think we deserve [to be top of the league], we've played some good football.
"At times we've maybe not played the best we could play but we made sure we got the points."
