Ref Watch: FA likely to review Marcos Alonso challenge on Shane Long, says Dermot Gallagher

Dermot Gallagher told Sky Sports Marcos Alonso should have been sent off in Chelsea's 3-2 Premier League win at Southampton on Saturday - and the FA may take action against him.

Mike Dean had a controversial afternoon at St Mary's, failing to take action against Alonso with a decision Matt Le Tissier called "incredible", and giving Chelsea free-kick several yards from where it should have been taken in the build-up to their first goal.

Incident: Shane Long is challenged by Marcos Alonso, who studs him in the back of the leg. The Irishman requires treatment but Dean plays on, awarding no foul.

Gallagher verdict: It's a red card. I think Mike is too close, he hasn't got the right angle, and I think what will happen is the FA will say to him have you clearly seen it, and he clearly hasn't or he would give a foul.

If he sees hit, he's going to give it. It's something he hasn't seen, an unseen incident, it can be referred later, they'll speak to Mike Dean and ask him if he's seen it, and he'll obviously say no.

Incident: Cesc Fabregas is fouled on the halfway line but Dean plays the advantage, before pulling the play back when Chelsea lose possession. Fabregas takes the free-kick from several yards ahead of the infringement, finding Alonso on the left, before he crosses for Olivier Giroud to score.

Gallagher verdict: I think what Mike has done is given a foul, played on an advantage, and he's brought the play back.

He thinks it's within the location of the foul, and you can see that he's said that's OK.
