Theo Walcott apologised to Arsenal fans for the performance

Theo Walcott apologised to Arsenal fans for their performance at Crystal Palace, insisting "this is not us".

Palace romped to a 3-0 victory at Selhurst Park on Monday Night Football, leaving the Gunners seven points off fourth-placed Manchester City, albeit with a game in hand.

It was Arsenal's fourth Premier League defeat on the trot, and Walcott said the team need to respond with hard work.

"The biggest thing would be letting the fans down tonight," he told Sky Sports. "That's not Arsenal at all. We bounced back well against Man City at home and West Ham, and tonight is not us.

"We're very down in that dressing room and we've let the fans down too. We need to respond, and that's only going to come from hard work on and bring it through to Monday."

Arsenal fans were heard singing "You're not fit to wear the shirt" at their players, and when asked about the chanting, Walcott said: "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

"We haven't got a problem with that, we just try to do our job, we go out there and do our best we don't try to lose the game.

"Tonight it just didn't happen. All we can do is apologise for that performance.

"I think they just wanted it more, you could tell. You could sense that from the kick-off, and it was an uphill battle. This isn't Arsenal in this moment in time. We thought we had got out of this patch, and we hoped we hadn't been dragged back into it."
