Wilfried Zaha v Hector Bellerin: The key battle in Crystal Palace v Arsenal

The Key Battle - Wilfried Zaha v Hector Bellerin

Wilfried Zaha will be looking to continue his recent excellent form for Crystal Palace when Arsenal make the 13-mile journey south through London to Selhurst Park on Monday Night Football.

Zaha has played all but six minutes of the Eagles' last five games, which produced four successive wins before the midweek setback at Southampton.

He scored in the wins at West Brom and Chelsea, and also assisted Christian Benteke's surprise winner at Stamford Bridge last Saturday.

Zaha now has six goals and seven assists this season, making him one of a select band of Premier League players with half a dozen or more in both categories.

This is proving to be by far the most productive Premier League season of the 24-year-old's career - he has recorded a goal involvement every 180 minutes on average, almost twice as good a rate as his previous best season in 2014/15.

Zaha now only needs one more to set a new career-best for league goals after also scoring six in two Championship campaigns for Palace.

Zaha's Premier League career

Season 2013-14 2014-15 2015-16 2016-17
Appearances 14 31 34 27
Goals 0 4 2 6
Assists 1 2 1 7
Goal involvement 1 6 3 13
Mins per involvement 611 330 831 180

Alongside his goal contributions, Zaha also leads the way for fouls won this season - critical when you consider the reliance Sam Allardyce has traditionally placed on his teams' attacking set-pieces.

Likewise, the Ivory Coast international is top of the charts for dribbles this season, and going back further since his return to Palace in 2014, Zaha has attempted 716 dribbles - a mammoth 106 more than any other Premier League player in that period. Chelsea's Eden Hazard has been his nearest rival with 610 dribbles over three seasons.

Most Premier League dribbles this season

Player Team Dribbles
Wilfried Zaha Crystal Palace 214
Adama Traore Middlesbrough 189
Eden Hazard Chelsea 169
Riyad Mahrez Leicester 155
Raheem Sterling Man City 145

Although he started at Southampton on Wednesday in the number 10 position, Zaha is equally comfortable operating from either wing, and if he plays on the left against Arsenal on Monday night, he is likely to face another speedy operator in right-back Hector Bellerin.

The Spaniard has recorded a top speed this season of 34.9 km/h, a rate that only two full-backs, Tottenham's Kyle Walker and Stoke's Erik Pieters, have bettered.

Bellerin will also give Zaha something to think about going in the opposite direction - he has had 61 touches in the opposition box this season. Of Premier League regulars, only Chelsea's Marcos Alonso has done so more frequently this season.

Most touches in opposition box by PL full-backs

Player Touches in opp box Mins per touch
Marcos Alonso 63 35.6
Hector Bellerin 61 32.3
James Milner 61 43.1
Seamus Coleman 56 41.3
Kyle Walker 54 45.1

Bellerin has started the last six Premier League games having previously struggled with injury, and he'll need to hit the ground running on Monday to keep Zaha quiet and help continue Arsenal's stronghold over their London rivals.

The Gunners have won six of seven meetings since Palace returned to the top flight in 2013, including all three visits to Selhurst Park. The key battle between Zaha and Bellerin could be decisive this time around.
