Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola made a point of seeking out Bournemouth's Harry Arter after Monday's 2-0 win to wish him luck for his partner's pregnancy.

The midfielder and partner Rachel suffered heartbreak in December 2015 when their daughter was stillborn.

They are now expecting another child, and Guardiola sought Arter out on the pitch at the final whistle of the Monday Night Football clash at the Vitality Stadium to wish the Republic of Ireland international the best of luck.

Arter and the former Barcelona boss then traded compliments, before the Bournemouth man jokingly quipped: "Come and sign me!"

"He offered his best wishes for me and my partner this week, which was an unbelievable touch," Arter later told the Daily Echo.

"He is someone I have a massive amount of respect for. I watched his Barcelona teams - and look at his Manchester City side tonight…

"For me, he is the best manager in the world. I don't think there's anybody close to him and what he has achieved.

"For him to offer that to me, I respected it and accepted it with a smile on my face."

Guardiola said of the exchange: "He will be a father soon so I said big congratulations to him and his partner because I know what happened in the past, and, hopefully, the baby will be well."
