The Cherries outclassed Leicester for large periods of the game and their domination was rewarded when Pugh - making his first start of the season - coolly volleyed home after Benik Afobe's initial effort was parried by Ron-Robert Zieler.
Leicester improved after the break but missed a golden opportunity to carry on the momentum drawn from Saturday's 4-2 win over Manchester City. The defeat condemns the Foxes to their eighth defeat of the season as their dismal defence of the Premier League crown continues.
Bournemouth repeatedly made in-roads down Leicester's left-hand side but the warnings were ignored by Claudio Ranieri's men until it was too late.
Captain Simon Francis freed Adam Smith on the right wing and the converted midfielder's cut back was met by Afobe, whose shot was saved by Zieler at the near post.
Fortunately for Bournemouth the shot was parried out to Pugh, who displayed good technique to keep his well-executed volley low and on target to the delight of the Dean Court crowd.
Leicester's best chance came right at the end with Artur Boruc saving from Leonardo Ulloa at close range.
