Manchester United endured a derby day to forget as Manchester City romped to a 6-1 victory at Old Trafford in October 2011

It's the day Manchester United fans long to forget, the day the so-called 'noisy neighbours' came to Old Trafford and made themselves heard.

Almost five years have passed since Manchester City, led by Roberto Mancini and fresh from ending their 35-year wait for a major honour, rocked up at the Theatre of Dreams and inflicted the champions' heaviest home defeat since 1955.

Mario Balotelli's opener, followed by his now-famous 'Why always me?' celebration, saw City control the first period, and by the time Jonny Evans had been sent off early in the second half there was only going to be one winner.

Balotelli doubled City's advantage before Sergio Aguero put the game beyond doubt on the hour, although Darren Fletcher's long-range effort threatened to spark the most unlikeliest of United comebacks as the hosts rallied late on.

But City went on to ruthlessly see out the game as an Edin Dzeko brace, either side of David Silva's fifth, saw United hit for six as the would-be champions staked their most-substantial claim for the Premier League title.
