A fourth-place finish and an FA Cup final win won't save Louis van Gaal's Manchester United job, says Jamie Redknapp.
United go into the Super Sunday clash with Leicester at Old Trafford in fifth place, five points off the top four but with a game in hand, and have a Wembley date with Crystal Palace to look forward to on May 21.
Van Gaal brought United back into the Champions League last season with a fourth-place finish, but having been knocked out at the group stage, while being criticised for his style of play, Redknapp sees his future going one way.
He told Sky Sports: "I don't think reaching the top four and winning the FA Cup would save his job, but what it would do is give him an opportunity to leave with his head held high.
"But I'm not convinced; I'm not sure how you can say he's done a good job. It hasn't been good enough, and is not exciting enough for what Manchester United fans want to see.
"It's a difficult one because you can keep changing managers as much as you want. They had one manager in 26 years and they've already had two in three years, but it depends what you want.
"If you want to bring in Jose Mourinho, I'd fully understand, he's a serial winner, but I'd be a bit nervous as a young player if he did come in, because he's never really played youth. He always tends to go with experience.
"These things will factor in, and United always give youth a chance, and I'm sure he'd be told that if he comes in.
"Or do they stick with Van Gaal? In truth he hasn't been inspirational, the football hasn't been great, and at times the home games have been tedious. The fans deserve better than that."
Redknapp also believes that United won't struggle to attract players even without the lure of Champions League football, and says the managerial situation will be more important for incoming transfers.
He added: "When they signed Di Maria they weren't in the Premier League so I don't think it will impact them that much. I know players want to play in the Champions League, but I don't think it will stop payers going to them.
"The problem you have more than anything is who is the next manager? Is Van Gaal going to be there? Is Mourinho coming? As a player, these are the things you want to know first.
"United's history means they will always sign some of the best players in the world. Maybe them not being in the top four is more a problem for them getting a new manager in."
City also face a tough trip to Southampton after United's game on Super Sunday, and though their position inside the top four is more secure, Redknapp says it would be unthinkable for them not to have Champions League football next season with Pep Guardiola incoming.
"It's unthinkable that Man City won't be in the Champions League with the money they've spent. There's a lot that has to happen for Man City not to be in the Champions League.
"What they can't afford to do is take the foot of the gas in the league, and I don't think they have so far. He hasn't rested players when perhaps we expected them to.
"This is a tough game to predict. It depends on the team news, will he play De Bruyne? Will Sterling get a game? Will Aguero start? If City go with their best team I think City will beat them."
