Bournemouth v Manchester United: Transfers, trophies and top-flight campaigns

American investors Peak 6 have bought a 25 per cent share of Bournemouth FC

Bournemouth come up against Premier League heavyweights Manchester United on Saturday Night Football - and the contrast between the two clubs is stark.

The Cherries stunned defending champions Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge last weekend and United, dumped out of the Champions League in midweek, will not have it all their own way at Vitality Stadium.

But when it comes to trophy hauls, record transfer fees and the cost of each team's starting XI last weekend the difference is clear.

Bournemouth are playing in their first Premier League campaign - but this is also their first-ever season in England's top flight. Manchester United are in their 91st season playing at the highest tier.

Last season's Championship winners defeated Chelsea last Saturday with a starting XI costing just £2.7m. That includes the £4,000 they paid Woking for key man  Harry Arter in 2010.

Bournemouth's entire squad cost just £30m - less than current United attackers Anthony Martial (initially £36m) and Juan Mata (£37.1m).

United's record transfer fee was a British record £59.7m spent on Angel di Maria. Bournemouth's record transfer was the £8m paid to Ipswich for Tyrone Mings last summer.

United will travel to Bournemouth's 11,464 capacity stadium aiming to keep up their pursuit of the Premier League title - and a championship-winning campaign in 2015/16 would make it 43 major honours. Bournemouth, although previous winners of the Championship, League One and the Football League Trophy, are yet to lift their first major piece of silverware.
