Didier Drogba was asked on Goals on Sunday if he would be returning to the Premier League

Didier Drogba has ruled out a loan return to the Premier League and revealed he could have signed for West Ham before joining Chelsea.

The striker enjoyed an impressive debut season for MLS side Montreal Impact, scoring nine goals in 11 league matches.

And, with the MLS not resuming until March, there has been speculation that the 37-year-old could return to England on a short-term deal.

But he told Goals on Sunday: "I would be honoured of course, but I think I need to rest and take care of my family and then come back to Montreal and have a good season."

Drogba spent nine years with Chelsea over two spells, scoring over 100 goals in the Premier League and converting the decisive penalty to win the Champions League in 2012.

However, he revealed that things could have been different had he taken up an offer from West Ham in 2002 before moving to Stamford Bridge.

Speaking on Goals On Sunday, Drogba explains how his former manager Jose Mourinho changed his life at Chelsea

"I was at Guingamp at that time," he said. "I'd just arrived at the club and they came to my house and spoke, but it didn't happen. I wasn't ready to go."

Asked about a possible return to Chelsea in the future, he said: "Things have been fantastic between me and the club. I really want to be part of this club, of the history of Chelsea.

"As I said, as an ambassador, as a kit man… it shows the love I have for this club. Garry Grey (Chelsea kit man) is in trouble, Gary… I'm coming for you!

"Coaching? I don't know. I will have to take some time and think about if it's something I want to do or not. If I'm able to do it, why not? I need to see if it's the right thing for me."
