Romelu Lukaku has become the fourth most expensive player in history for combined transfer fees after completing his big-money move from Everton to Manchester United.

Clubs have now spent £117.78m on the Belgium international, with Chelsea spending £12.75m in 2011 and Everton splashing £30.06m three years ago following a loan spell that also cost the Toffees £2.98m, according to transfermarkt.

Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria is the world's most expensive player with combined transfer fees of £152.15m after joining Benfica for £6.80m (2007), Real Madrid for £28.05m (2010), Manchester United for £63.75m (2014) and PSG for £53.55m after just one season at Old Trafford.

Lukaku is set to fill the boots of released striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Manchester after the Swede suffered a long-term knee injury - but the departed 35-year-old ranks second for all-time combined fees totalling £143.74m.

Ibrahimovic joined Ajax from Malmo for £6.63m in 1999, moving to Juventus for £13.60m in 2004, before moves to Inter (£21.08m), Barcelona (£59.08m), AC Milan (£5.10m loan fee and £20.40m) and PSG (£17.85m). He moved to United on a free transfer last summer.

Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain ranks ahead of Lukaku in third with transfers totalling £119.85m, followed by James Rodriguez - who completed a two-year loan move from Real Madrid to Bayern Munich on Tuesday - in fifth place on £116.99m.

Retired duo Nicolas Anelka (£108.26m) and Hernan Crespo (£101.38m) rank sixth and seventh - despite Chelsea being the most recent club to pay for the players in 2008 and 2003, respectively.
