Season review

There was much anticipation ahead of Everton's first season under new owner Farhad Moshiri and money was indeed spent in the summer - £30m of it on Yannick Bolasie - but the Toffees could not quite crack the top six under Ronald Koeman.

The season still represented a return to form having finished in the bottom half in the two previous campaigns and there were moments of real quality. The 4-0 win over Manchester City was the obvious highlight but Arsenal were well beaten at Goodison Park too.

Romelu Lukaku looked set to be the Premier League top scorer before Harry Kane's late burst, while Tom Davies could become the emblem of Koeman's new Everton. Supporters will be anxious to add to an exciting group of players rather than lose their stars if they are to progress next term.

EXPERT ANALYSIS - PHIL THOMPSON

Managerial review

I think Ronald Koeman has done very well. They've made Goodison Park into a bit of a fortress again, which has pleased the locals, and he's managed the club very well. After a difficult spell early on, for his first season he's done very well.

Player of the season: Romelu Lukaku

It can only be Romelu Lukaku. Scoring that amount of goals and being in the position to win the Golden Boot so late into the season is exceptional, especially in a team which is seventh in the league.

2017/18 prospects

They'll want to try and break into the top six and certainly target the Europa League again. You look at the gap between them and the side below and it's like two leagues. The big issue for them is trying to keep Lukaku and Ross Barkley, and they'll probably look to replace Phil Jagielka. There's talk that Michael Keane could go there and he would be a very good signing.
