Chris Wilder says Sheffield United will not change their identity after return to Premier League

Chris Wilder says he will give the players who earned Sheffield United promotion to the Premier League this season the chance to prove themselves at that level next term.

Since joining his boyhood club in 2016, Wilder has achieved two promotions in three years with a core group of players playing a part in both promotions.

Wilder confirmed on Goals on Sunday although the transfer budget for next season would be a significant increase on last, he takes inspiration from Bournemouth who still have players from their time in League One.

Chris Wilder says backing from the club's board has enabled him to help lead Sheffield United into the Premier League

He said: "The budget is more than we had last year!

"We're not going to change our identity. The recruitment is massive for us we can't afford many mistakes.

"We got David McGoldrick on a free from Ipswich, Enda Stevens was free, John Fleck was free, Oliver Norwood has got three promotions in three years. There's some brilliant stories in the squad and I want to make sure they get an opportunity as well.

"I'm not going to rip apart a team that's gone well. Four of five of the lads that came from League One are a great inspiration.

"We went to Marbella on pre-season two years ago and Bournemouth were there. Harry Arter, Charlie Daniels, Simon Francis and others were in the Premier League who started off in League One. We had a chat to our boys and said this can happen."
