Sky Sports News understands the FA is considering opening up Wembley Stadium to new bidders, although Shahid Khan remains the favourite to purchase the arena should the governing body choose to sell.
Khan, who owns Fulham, made a £600m offer to take the national stadium off the FA's hands in April.
It is understood the FA has had approaches from at least three other interested parties, although none are considered to be as attractive as Khan's offer.
The 67-year-old's bid matches much of the FA's criteria. He will agree to England matches and FA Cup finals remaining at Wembley, as well as allowing the FA to keep their offices at the stadium.
Furthermore, the deal would permit the FA to retain ownership of Club Wembley - the lucrative hospitality and corporate arm of the Wembley business.
FA chief executive Martin Glenn says money generated from the potential sale of Wembley would be invested in grassroots football, in the form of new all-weather pitches and improvements to grass surfaces.
