Should Sunderland have been awarded a penalty after Tim Ream appeared to catch Ejaria in the box.

Fulham were let off the hook on Friday evening as Sunderland were denied a penalty after Tim Ream appeared to catch Ovie Ejaria in the box.

The Black Cats had taken an unexpected lead after 28 minutes at Craven Cottage when Joel Asoro struck a low effort past Marcus Bettinelli from distance.

But moments before Lucas Piazon fire home the equaliser from close range, the Liverpool loanee had penalty appeals waved away by referee Peter Bankes, despite being brought down by Whites centre-back Tim Ream.

Aleksandar Mitrovic then netted the winner 14 minutes from time to ensure Fulham keep up the pace at the top of the Championship, but Sunderland fans would be forgiven for yearning for a different outcome after their appeals were turned down.
