Wolfsburg are trying to persuade Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic to reignite his career with the Bundesliga club, according to Sky sources.
Liverpool are understood to be happy for Markovic, who has not played a competitive game for Liverpool since May 2015, to join Wolfsburg on a permanent deal before the transfer window closes on Wednesday.
Swansea had enquired about a move, either on loan or permanent, for the 23-year-old Serb but are understood to be losing confidence over securing a deal with Wolfsburg left as the main option open for him to secure football away from Anfield.
Markovic has spent time on loan at Fenerbahce, Hull and Sporting Lisbon since being signed by Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2014.
Jurgen Klopp has already sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for £146m and allowed Daniel Sturridge to join West Brom on loan for the remainder of the season.
