Guillem Balague says highly rated boss Nuno Espirito Santo wants to take Wolves into the Premier League

Everton have approached Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo about the vacant managerial position at Goodison Park, but the Portuguese wants to stay at Molineux, according to Guillem Balague.

The Premier League club are currently looking for a new manager after parting company with previous boss Ronald Koeman.

The Dutchman was sacked following Everton's 5-2 home defeat to Arsenal on October 22, with U23 coach David Unsworth having since taken over in a caretaker capacity.

However, with Everton having lost both matches with Unsworth at the helm, the club are understood to be pressing ahead with plans to find a permanent replacement for Koeman.

One of the names on Everton's short list is understood to be Nuno, who only took over at Wolves in May after a season in charge of Porto, but has since made an impressive start to life in the Championship.

Wolves currently sit top of the table after Tuesday's 2-0 win at Norwich City, and Sky Sports' Spanish football expert says he is not surprised clubs like Everton are looking at the former Rio Ave and Valencia coach.

"Why wouldn't they first of all, after seeing what he is doing at Wolves?" Balague told Sky Sports News.

The 43-year-old wants to stay at Wolves though to finish the job of getting the club back in the Premier League for the first time since 2012, says Balague.

"The answer to that from the representatives was that not even the biggest club in the world will take him away from Wolves right now," he said.

"That is basically the message sent by him. He is focused on the job at hand, he considers the Championship one of the strongest leagues in the world, one of the most difficult ones in the world to actually win, and he is in the process of doing that.

"And he wants to take Wolves into the Premier League and show his credentials there.

"But the contacts have taken place and he was one of the coaches on the shortlist of Everton."
