Huddersfield's David Wagner 'hugely disappointed' over offside decision against Leicester

David Wagner struggled to contain his disappointment after Elias Kachunga saw a second-half goal ruled out for offside in Huddersfield's 1-1 draw against Leicester at the John Smith's Stadium.

With just over an hour played, Kachunga thought he had given the home side a 2-1 lead when he headed a Mathias 'Zanka' Jorgensen shot into the net from close-range.

However, his joy was shortlived as the assistant referee ruled that he was in an offside position from Zanka's shot although replays suggested that Andy King had actually played him onside.

Although Leicester also had chances to win the game - most notably when Jamie Vardy missed an open goal midway through the second half - Huddersfield largely controlled the game, enjoying 58% possession.

And while Wagner was pleased with the performance of his team as they bounced back from Monday night's 2-0 defeat to West Ham, he lamented the decision to rule out Kachunga's strike.

Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, Wagner said: "I'm hugely disappointed, especially about one situation when [Elias] Kachunga scored and he was clearly onside.

"This is a decision which is harsh for us to take and this is why I'm not happy with result.

"I'm massively disappointed that we had this wrong decision, an important decision, which isn't difficult to see, to be fair.

"I was absolutely delighted with the effort and the performance that the players gave, especially the three players who were making their starting debuts."

Two of Huddersfield's full debutants combined for the opening goal of the game as Abdelhamid Sabiri set up Laurent Depoitre for his goal just after half-time although Vardy equalised four minutes later from the penalty spot.

Depoitre, a summer signing from Porto, lead the attack as Huddersfield's top-scorer Steve Mounie was absent through injury and Wagner was happy with the Belgian's contribution.

"I'm very pleased with Depoitre's debut, he played very well, he put in a great effort, he has a good fighting attitude, he worked without possession, good movement, kept the ball in possession, scored.

"He has done exactly what we expected and wanted to see from him so this has to give him and us a lift that we have another striker along with Steve Mounie."
