Tony Pulis was left disappointed with West Brom's "poor" defending as they fell 3-1 to Brighton on Saturday afternoon.
Brighton secured their first-ever Premier League win at the expense of West Brom, who saw their unbeaten start come to an abrupt end.
West Brom offered little in the way of attacking threat throughout the match, though James Morrison did score late on after Pascal Gross' double and Tomer Hemed's header.
The manner in which West Brom conceded their three goals frustrated Pulis, who felt his side could have created more at the Amex.
"Without taking any credit away from Brighton, to concede just before and after half-time, that gives them a real lift," Pulis said.
"The last thing you want when a team has got everyone behind them is to give them that confidence.
"Fair play to Brighton, they played well. But even the third was a poor, poor goal. So we've conceded three poor goals, but still had opportunities and a lot of possession to have created more."
Defeat for West Brom comes just days after the international break finished, and Pulis was left ruing the tired legs out on display against Brighton.
"International breaks… everyone has to deal with it, but some of the players turned up Thursday afternoon and they looked as though they turned up on Thursday afternoon for 70 minutes here," Pulis added.
"We were better in the last 20 minutes so we will take some substance out of that."
And while Pulis handed a debut to Grzegorz Krychowiak, fellow new boy Kieran Gibbs started on the bench.
The West Brom boss had praise for PSG loanee Krychowiak, and believes both he and Gibbs will perform well for the Baggies.
"Grzegorz will need football but he showed at times today what a good player he is. And Gibbs will be a good player for us, once he gets into what we want, we will be fine," Pulis said.
"It's not about having players in the squad or in the team, it's about having players who can compete. The names on the back of the shirts don't mean nothing to me, it's going out there and doing it.
"That's what we've got to do, whether it's with the best players or not the best players."
