Arsenal and Chelsea fans honour Grenfell Tower victims ahead of Community Shield at Wembley
Sunday 6 August 2017 18:49, UK
Arsenal and Chelsea fans paid their respects to victims of the Grenfell Tower tragedy by observing a minute's silence at Wembley ahead of Sunday's Community Shield.
Police believe at least 80 people died after the west London tower block went up in flames in June.
The Football Association, in conjunction with Arsenal, Chelsea and McDonalds were hoping to raise over £1m from the match for those affected by the tragedy.
Flowers were laid by the side of the pitch prior to kick-off and both sets of supporters unfurled flags to honour the victims.
The Choir for Grenfell performed Bridge Over Troubled Water ahead of the game and a message reading For Grenfell was beamed across the national stadium. An impeccably observed minute's silence followed.
