Winston Reid was sent off and Javier Hernandez missed a one-on-one chance on his debut as West Ham drew an incident-packed friendly 3-3 with Altonaer FC on Tuesday.
Reid was making his first appearance for the Hammers after undergoing knee surgery in May.
But hopes of a clean sheet were soon dashed as a West Ham wall parted in the fifth minute to allow Nick Brisevac to smash in a free-kick from 25 yards.
Toni Martinez quickly levelled for the Hammers after cutting in from the right side, but Denis Thiessen restored the lead for the German fourth-tier side in the 39th minute.
West Ham captain Reid was sent off before half-time as he was booked for dissent and then shown red for clapping at the referee.
