Winston Reid was sent off and Javier Hernandez missed a one-on-one chance on his debut as West Ham drew an incident-packed friendly 3-3 with Altonaer FC on Tuesday.
Reid was making his first appearance for the Hammers after undergoing knee surgery in May.
But hopes of a clean sheet were soon dashed as a West Ham wall parted in the fifth minute to allow Nick Brisevac to smash in a free-kick from 25 yards.
Toni Martinez quickly levelled for the Hammers after cutting in from the right side, but Denis Thiessen restored the lead for the German fourth-tier side in the 39th minute.
West Ham captain Reid was sent off before half-time as he was booked for dissent and then shown red for clapping at the referee.
Andre Ayew made it 2-2 as he fired home from Pedro Obiang's ball down the middle, only for Altonaer to restore the lead again after Marko Arnautovic hit the post with a low free-kick.
An own goal levelled the game at 3-3 and Hernandez missed two chances to win it after coming on in the 70th minute. The summer signing twice took it round the keeper but saw his first shot cleared off the line and then sliced wide after appearing to have been clipped from behind in the box.
Riyad Mahrez played 60 minutes for Leicester as they lost 2-1 to Sky Bet Championship side Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.
Hope Akpan headed the ball across Eldin Jakupovic to give the hosts the lead on 17 minutes before Lucas Akins slotted home a second 12 minutes later as a flat-footed Leicester defence failed to stop a deflected pass from Luke Murphy.
Mahrez, who has been the subject of two failed bids from Roma, was replaced by Demarai Gray after an hour - and six minutes later new signing Harry Maguire lashed the ball into the roof of the net to halve the deficit.
But Leicester failed to find an equaliser and were lucky to finish with 11 men after a horrific tackle from Yohan Benalouane on Stephen Warnock; the officials allowing Craig Shakespeare to substitute the defender rather than send him off.
Burnley warmed up for the new Premier League season with a 2-2 draw against La Liga side Celta Vigo at Turf Moor.
Robbie Brady opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a curling shot from outside the area following good work from Sam Vokes and Jeff Hendrick.
However, Celta midfielder Jozabed Sanchez struck twice in three minutes (35, 38) for the visitors; the second a sensational shot into the top corner.
Hendrick equalised from close range following Brady's free-kick as Sean Dyche's men continue their preparations for their opening Premier League clash against Chelsea next Saturday.
Huddersfield staged a second-half fightback to draw 3-3 with Stuttgart in Austria.
Trailing 2-0 at half-time, substitute Rajiv van La Parra pulled a goal back in the 54th minute for the Premier League new boys, for whom Tommy Smith and Michael Hefele started.
Stuttgart hit back through Tobias Werner but two goals in three minutes from Collin Quaner and Sean Scannell levelled proceedings.
West Brom conceded a late equaliser as they drew 1-1 with League Two Port Vale.
Hal Robson-Kanu put the Baggies ahead in the 43rd minute, capitalising on a defensive mistake and rounding goalkeeper Ryan Boot to score.
The Baggies played the last 30 minutes with 10 academy graduates on the pitch, but conceded in the 86th minute as Tom Pope headed in.
Joselu scored twice for the second game in succession as Stoke were beaten 4-2 by St Pauli.
After falling 2-0 behind inside 20 minutes, Joselu struck either side of half-time, but the Potters were largely second best with a number of first-team regulars not involved.
Glenn Murray was sent off five minutes from time as Brighton drew 0-0 with Girona. The striker was shown a second yellow card for a sliding tackle around the halfway line.
