Leicester and West Brom's penalty shootout in the Premier League Asia Trophy trialled a new 'ABBA' system on Wednesday.
The new order of taking penalties is similar to that of a tennis tie-breaker and is thought to be fairer than the widely used alternating system as the team who goes second does not have to continually catch up with the score.
Under 'ABBA' rules, team A takes the opening penalty with team B taking the next two before team A takes the following two and so on until there is a winner.
During Wednesday's match live on Sky Sports Premier League, it was West Brom youngster Sam Field who missed for his side before Marc Albrighton netted his next penalty for Leicester to see them through to the final on Saturday.
UEFA have already implemented the system at the U17 European Championships for both women and men while FIFA also used it at the U20 World Cup.
