We take a look back to 1999, the last time Everton left Anfield with a Premier League victory over their neighbours

Everton travel to Liverpool on Saturday looking to record their first win at Anfield since September 1999.

On that occasion, Walter Smith's side recorded a famous 1-0 win secured thanks to a fourth-minute strike from forward Kevin Campbell in front of a stunned Kop End.

However, the bad-tempered match will be best remembered for an incident involving Liverpool goalkeeper Sander Westerveld and Toffees striker Francis Jeffers that saw both players receive straight red cards after an ugly-looking scuffle in the penalty area.

Those two were not the only ones to be sent off, though, with young Reds midfielder Steven Gerrard also receiving his marching orders late on after a high tackle on Campbell.

And amazingly, referee Mike Riley could even have issued more red cards in what was one of the most explosive Merseyside derbies in recent years…
