Jamie Carragher examines Manchester City’s defending on Monday Night Football after their 3-1 defeat to Chelsea.
Pep Guardiola used three at the back as City matched up to Chelsea, but the move did not work for the hosts as Antonio Conte's side ran out 3-1 winners at the Etihad Stadium.
"There was a lot of talk as to why Pep Guardiola went with three at the back to go up against Chelsea's system," Carrager said on MNF.
"City have probably played that as much as Chelsea this season, but they don't play it every week so maybe there's something in that.
"It was virtually a man-to-man press all over the pitch when Chelsea had the ball and I think it cost Man City in the end with the wing backs heavily involved."
Chelsea's win extended their run of victories to eight as they moved four points ahead of Guardiola's side and stayed three points clear at the top of the Premier League.
