Tottenham and Harry Kane are relaxed about his future but there will be no talks over a new contract in the short term, according to Sky sources.
It is understood no formal talks have taken place but both the club and the player recently indicated a desire to improve his current contract, which was signed in February last year and runs until 2020.
They were far apart in their assessment of the striker's wages, however, and an initial conversation ended without agreement.
England international Kane is understood to earn around £60,000 per week, which is less than Hugo Lloris and the new contract recently signed by Christian Eriksen, and understood to be in the mid-tier region of Spurs' wage structure.
Tottenham have been keen to tie down their best players over recent months, with the likes of Eriksen, Dele Alli, Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Kyle Walker all signing new deals since the start of the season.
But Sky sources understand the club are reluctant to pay over £100k per week as a basic wage and prefer to add more incentive-based bonuses.
It is understood that relations between Kane's representatives and the club remain amicable and the player is not thinking about leaving White Hart Lane.
Kane, 23, is a product of Spurs academy and has become one of the best strikers in Europe since Mauricio Pochettino took charge in 2014, scoring 67 goals in over 100 appearances.
