Southampton manager Claude Puel said his players must learn after throwing away a lead to lose 2-1 to struggling Hull City at the KCOM Stadium on Sunday.
The Saints were seemingly cruising towards all three points after going into half-time with a 1-0 lead thanks to Charlie Austin's sixth-minute penalty.
However, they left the north east empty handed after conceding two goals in the space of just 125 seconds in the second half, with Puel keen for his side not to make the same mistakes again going forward.
"I think we had this game in control," said the Frenchman. "In the second half we let this team believe a comeback was possible. All together it is impossible, but I think it is a good lesson for the future, because it is difficult today to leave without three points.
"But congratulations to his [Mike Phelan's] team as they believe all the time. It was a strange game, a strange first half because with the injuries of the opponent," Puel added in reference to the two first-half injuries Hull suffered which appeared to galvanise the hosts.
"It would be interesting to keep a good concentration in this situation. Two free kicks, it is not normal for you, but I hope this situation in this game is important for the future and we have taken a good lesson.
"I just look at my team and they can do better, the concentration, the quality and the rhythm of the game, it is important for the future. We dominated the game and had control, so it is important to score another goal and to keep the ball and have control of the game.
"And in the second half we have many chances, of course, but I think we are all responsible for this game and I think it is important to take this game as a lesson for the future."
