Everton are standing firm on their £50m valuation of John Stones and have told Manchester City to take it or leave it, Sky sources understand.
The two clubs have been in talks for several weeks over a move to the Etihad for the England international, but Sky Sports News HQ has been told there is effectively no negotiation to be done.
The ball is now in City's court and they must decide whether they are willing to meet that valuation or move on to other targets.
Stones has continued to train and turned out for Everton on their recent tour of Germany, as well as in Wayne Rooney's goalless testimonial at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Everton are expected to return with a second offer for Swansea captain Ashley Williams as Stones' replacement.
The Welsh club have said they want to keep him but Sky sources understand they could be persuaded to do business with an opening offer of around £15m.
