Manchester United may have had a frustrating December so far, but their record in Boxing Day fixtures suggests Louis van Gaal and the club's supporters can look forward to their trip to Stoke on December 26.
United have won 55 per cent of the games they've played on Boxing Day - a better record than any other club in England. They've played 91 times on December 26, winning 50, drawing 15 and losing 26.
United have also scored 185 Boxing Day goals in total - more than any other team.
In a Sky Sports study of Boxing Day fixtures, looking at clubs' records on December 26, League Two Oxford United are a surprise second along with Championship side Brighton. Both sides have a 50 per cent win rate in the festive fixture.
Liverpool were the only other Premier League team to make it into the top 10 of the study - which only included clubs that had played over 20 Boxing Day fixtures. The Reds have a 45.4 per cent win percentage from their 86 games.
At the other end of the table, Wycombe Wanderers - who have played 20 Boxing Day fixtures - have the worst record on December 26, with just four wins.
The highest-scoring Boxing Day fixture was in 1935 when Tranmere Rovers thrashed Oldham Athletic 13-4 at Prenton Park. Indeed, Oldham have conceded 155 goals on Boxing Day, more than any other team.
