Leicester City defender Jeffrey Schlupp has signed a new contract with the Premier League club.

The City academy product only signed a fresh three-year contract 12 months ago, tying him to the club until the end of the 2016/17 season.

The Daily Mirror had reported that Schlupp was a target for Arsenal, Aston Villa and Swansea in the current transfer window.

Schlupp has made 115 appearances for the first Leicester team, scoring 14 goals, three of which came last term as City staged an spirited late-season revival to secure Premier League survival.

German-born Schlupp, 22, won his first cap for Ghana against Gabon back in 2013 before earning a call-up to the country's provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

He went on to claim a second cap for the Black Stars in a friendly against the Netherlands but missed out on selection in the 23-man squad for the finals.

Schlupp was also controversially omitted from Avram Grant's 2015 Africa Cup of Nations Ghana squad due to injury but started 30 of City’s 38 games in the league last season.

Having been with the club from the age of 11, Schlupp is confident that he can continue to move forward if he keeps gathering such experience.

“I’m absolutely delighted to sign for a club that is seriously going places,” he said. “We’ve seen how far the club has progressed in the last few years and it looks like it’s just the beginning.

“I’ve been here a long time, I know a lot about the city and the club and I’ve always felt settled in Leicester. It’s a great place to work every day, I know a lot of people here and I think that’s helped me to progress. It’s a really good environment for a young player to learn and improve your game.

“Having just played my first real full season, I want to make sure I come back in the right condition so that I can kick on, get more football and keep developing.

“I want to play as much as I can in the next four years so it’s all about settling down and getting games under my belt.”
