McClaren takes on West Ham youngster

Wolfsburg boss Steve McClaren has taken West Ham youngster Holmar Orn Eyjolfsson on a four-day trial. The Iceland Under 21 international has found his chances limited at Upton Park and has had spells on loan with both Cheltenham and Belgian outfit Roeselaere since joining in 2008. Eyjolfsson is still highly regarded in some circles and rose to prominence in the Under-17 European Championship with his country in 2007. "I have been talking much about the Bundesliga with my father. We have also been talking about VfL Wolfsburg," said Eyjolfsson, whose father, Eyolfur Sverrison, had a spell as captain of Hertha Berlin in his playing days.

Strong

"The first impression is fine, I was well received by the squad. The team looks like a strong side, training was very intensive." The 20-year-old is a regular at reserve level for the Hammers, but former England manager McClaren admitted to being impressed by the player. "This feels good. He is a centre-back and he is an Under 21 international with Iceland. We will have to wait and see," said McClaren.
