Exeter pull out of Fox deal

Rights issue denies former Celtic keeper a move to St James Park

Exeter City have been forced to scrap plans to sign former Celtic goalkeeper Scott Fox following a trial at St James Park. Fox has spent the last month training with the League One club after deciding to leave Celtic in search of regular first-team football. However, the SPL giants still hold the youngster's registration and this has prevented Exeter from reaching a deal with Fox. "He is a nice lad, a good player and we liked him," director of football Steve Perryman told the club's official website. "But we didn't like him enough yet to offer him the length of contract needed to satisfy this rights situation with Celtic as well as the player himself. "Because Celtic had him as a young player they still retain his rights and on this occasion we aren't in a position to offer the host club the deal they desire."
