Defender secures return to Sixfields after leaving Arsenal

Northampton Town have signed Paul Rodgers on a one-year contract following the defender's release by Arsenal. Rodgers spent the second half of last term on loan at Northampton, making 11 appearances, and he has been training with the League Two club in pre-season. He has now secured a deal with the Cobblers and manager Stuart Gray is happy to have brought in the 19-year-old to increase his defensive options. "I think Paul came on in leaps and bounds in his time with us last season and I am pleased he has signed," Gray told the club's official website. "We need pace in the side and Paul brings that and gives us a good balance at the back. We have plenty of experience in defence and Paul's pace will offer a good blend. "He is another player with an excellent attitude and he has a real hunger to do well and kick his career on. He is a very ambitious young player who has had an excellent grounding at Arsenal. "He has all the attributes to become a very good player and I am sure he can and will learn from those around him as he continues to develop. "He can play at right-back or at centre-back and he will give us options in defence."
