Graeme Murty says the expectation at Rangers is 'second to none'

Graeme Murty insists the expectation at Rangers is "second to none" in Scottish football.

The Rangers' boss' future at the club remains uncertain and he admits he "feels the pressure on his shoulders" with his contract as the interim manager set to expire at the end of the season.

Rangers' best chance of silverware comes in the Scottish Cup when they face Celtic in the semi-final on April 15 and Murty is hoping to give the fans something to celebrate.

"The expectation of this football club is second to none. You walk down that corridor and you see pictures and shirts of great teams, full of international players, playing the highest level," Murty said, ahead of Rangers' game against Dundee on Saturday.

"And that expectation is still here at this football club, our fans expect to be represented in a certain way."

Rangers have not won a match in their last three games, losing two and drawing one, following their 3-2 loss to Celtic in the league. Before the defeat to their rivals, they had won six in a row in all competitions.

"When you start do to well and build momentum like we did, when you dip slightly, that expectation comes crashing in and people, rightly or wrongly, have a response to that which is an emotional one." Murty added.

"You have to deal with the emotions first and understand it comes from pure desire to see this football club back on top.

"The pressure comes from wanting to be on top, the fans wanting us to be on top and rightly or wrongly everything that has been spoken or written about in the media is exacerbated whether we do well or we don't.

"I have no doubt when we do get back on top someone will want an improvement again, that is the part of it and the nature of the beast."

Murty revealed that forward Josh Windass is set to miss the Dundee fixture and could also be out for the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden.

He added: "I don't know about next weekend as yet. It's too soon to say. We'll assess him over the weekend and see where he gets to."
