Former Everton and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Steven Pienaar has announced his retirement from football.
The South Africa international joined Everton in 2007, after spells with Ajax and Borussia Dortmund, initially signing on loan for one season before making the move permanent.
He made over 150 appearances for the Toffees during two separate stints at the club, either side of a £3m move to Tottenham, where injuries limited his first-team opportunities.
Pienaar's final year in England saw him relegated from the Premier League with Sunderland at the end of the 2017 season, before leaving to join South African side Bidvest Wits.
The 35-year-old announced the news in a video posted on Twitter in which he promised to reveal his future plans in the coming weeks.
"Today I am announcing my retirement from football," Pienaar said. "I want to say thanks to my mum and my family and all the clubs that I have played for and the supporters.
"Thanks for the love throughout my career. Follow me on social media, there is an announcement coming up soon."
