Everton target Nikola Kalinic prefers a move to AC Milan, according to Sky in Italy.
It is understood the Toffees are prepared to pay £22.85m for the Fiorentina striker, but he would like to remain in Italy.
AC Milan are on a major spending spree this summer as they look to re-establish themselves among Europe's elite clubs, having finished sixth in Serie A last season.
They have spent well over £100m on 11 players including the likes of Italy star Leonardo Bonucci, Porto's Andre Silva and Lazio's Lucas Biglia.
But Everton have been splashing out on big transfer fees themselves, including £30m each on Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane, and £23.6m on Ajax's Davy Klaassen.
Ronald Koeman has lost top scorer Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, however, and would like another striker despite adding Spain youngster Sandro Ramirez in a £5.25m deal from Malaga.
Kalinic is a Croatia international who previously spent time at Blackburn Rovers in Premier League between 2009 and 2011.
The 29-year-old has scored 33 goals in 84 appearances for Fiorentina since a 2015 move from Ukranian side Dnipro.
