Andre Dozzell looks set to miss the rest of the season after Ipswich Town confirmed the midfielder has sustained a torn cruciate ligament.
Dozzell, who was part of the England team that won the U19 European Championship last month, was stretchered off at the end of the first half in Ipswich's win over Birmingham on Saturday.
He saw a specialist on Monday and is now expected to undergo surgery next week with a nine-month estimated recovery period.
"I saw Dozzer yesterday and he was very down time. He is bound to be," Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy told the club's official website.
"It's the season out for him and it's very disappointing, for us but especially for Dozzer. He will get looked after well by our medical staff and we wish him as quick a recovery as possible."
