Scunthorpe have turned down a surprise £4m offer for Kevin van Veen from a Chinese Super League club, Sky sources understand.
Henan Jianye FC would need to bid closer to £8m for Scunthorpe to consider their offer, according to Sky sources, with Graham Alexander's side chasing promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.
Van Veen, 25, spent time on loan at Dutch side SC Cambuur last year, but has been a key player for Scunthorpe in the current campaign and the club do not want to lose the striker, who has scored 10 goals in 31 appearances for them this season.
Several high-profile footballers have moved to the Chinese Super League in the current transfer window, with the likes of Carlos Tevez, Alexandre Pato and Oscar all making the switch to sides in the increasingly prominent division.
Meanwhile, Scunthorpe sit top of League One and travel to Southend on Saturday looking to extend their lead in the hunt for promotion.
