Wigan have completed the signing of defender Jake Buxton from Derby on a three-year deal.

The 31-year-old becomes manager Gary Caldwell's seventh summer signing following the arrivals of Dan Burn, Alex Gilbey, Stephen Warnock, Nick Powell, Kyle Knoyle and Adam Bogdan at the DW Stadium.

Buxton could feature for Wigan for the first time on Tuesday night when they face League One Oldham at Boundary Park in a pre-season friendly.

"Jake adds great experience and competition to our defence and I am delighted to be able to bring him here," Caldwell told the club's official website.

"Not only will he be an asset to us on the field, but Jake will also add to the great character within our dressing room and I feel he will fit into our group perfectly.

"He's a top professional with over 300 Football League games to his name and he's chomping at the bit to add to his tally."
