Just after the break, Tom McGill made a fine stop to deny Alassana Jatta in a one-on-one.
But County moved ahead in the 57th minute, as Abbott received Crowley's pass and saw a deflected strike beat McGill.
Alex Bass made big stops to deny Alex Gilbey and Joe Tomlinson, before a Joe White free-kick was narrowly deflected wide.
Having survived the pressure, Notts County pulled further ahead with 20 minutes remaining as Crowley received David McGoldrick's pass and duly scored.
Crowley and Jatta missed chances for a third, while Bass again denied Gilbey, but the visitors held on for the victory.
