Crewe's best chance for a first-half equaliser came for Omar Bogle, who saw a strike on the turn denied by Tom McGill.
The visitors equalised in the opening 10 minutes of the second half as Knight-Lebel bundled the ball in at a corner that the Dons could not clear.
Crewe then missed a chance to complete the comeback as McGill denied Shilow Tracey in a one-on-one.
But despite plenty of effort, neither side could turn one of multiple half-chances into anything more than that as the points were ultimately shared.
