Highlights of the Sky Bet League One match between MK Dons and Port Vale

Port Vale secured their first away win of the season with a 1-0 victory over MK Dons at Stadium:mk on Sunday.

A first-half goal from Alex Jones sealed all three points for the visitors as MK Dons' misery continues in their search for a first league victory at home.

The hosts came agonisingly close to grabbing a late point when Ben Reeves rattled the crossbar with the last kick of the game, but it wasn't to be for Karl Robinson's side.

It was MK Dons who looked to assert some early pressure on their opponents, pressing high in the opening half-hour and passing the ball well as they looked to maintain possession.

Jak Alnwick was called into action just six minutes into the game, reacting well to produce a smart save from Kieran Agard's goal-bound header.

Some neat link-up play between Samir Carruthers and Agard released Ryan Colclough who found some space to fire a shot, but Remie Streete was on hand to block his effort from a dangerous position.

Dean Lewington rattled the woodwork moments after the half-hour mark when Vale failed to clear their lines, allowing the defender to unleash a shot which smashed against Alnwick's right post.

However, just two minutes later, a moment of madness from Lewington saw Port Vale awarded a penalty after he raised his arm to stop the ball inside the area.

Jones stepped up to take the spot-kick and David Martin got down well to his right to make the save, but Jones made no mistake in slotting home the rebound to give the visitors the lead in the 35th minute.

MK Dons had the first chance of the second-half when Joe Walsh met Matthew Upson's corner with a great header, but he sent the ball just wide in what was a lucky let-off for the visitors.

They came close once more in the 67th minute when Carruthers crossed the ball to Dean Bowditch, who squared it across goal, but there was nobody in the box to produce the final touch.

Sam Hart almost made it two for Vale with an impressive strike after some great counter-attacking play, but Martin kept it out with a tidy save.

Jeers echoed around the stadium from frustrated MK Dons fans, before Reeves almost rescued a point with the final kick of the game, but his free-kick thundered onto the crossbar to prolong his side's wait for a home win.

Next up for the two sides, MK Dons travel to Scunthorpe and Port Vale face Sheffield United.
