Millwall 3-2 Everton: Marco Silva's side suffer FA Cup upset at The Den

Toffees bow out in fourth round after Lions score stoppage-timer winner

Everton's woes on the road continued under Marco Silva as Millwall knocked out the Premier League side with a thrilling 3-2 win in the FA Cup fourth round.

Silva cut a frustrated figure as his team only had two shots on target, scoring from both of them through Richarlison (43) and Cenk Tosun (72).

Despite leading twice, Everton could not hold on to their advantage as Lee Gregory (45+1) and Jake Cooper (75) controversially pulled the Sky Bet Championship side back into the match.

A replay looked on the cards but Millwall mustered one last attack in stoppage time and Murray Wallace fired home (90+2) after some dismal Everton defending.

Not even a mini-pitch invasion at the full-time whistle could spoil the party as Millwall made it five wins in a row against Premier League opposition at The Den in the FA Cup.

Silva has now won just six of 32 away games with Hull, Watford and Everton and the pressure is mounting on his shoulders.

All the ingredients were in the mix for an upset: a raucous crowd, heavy rain and a Premier League team out of form.

Millwall started with plenty of bite in the tackle and aggression from set-pieces. Cooper headed a fantastic chance wide on eight minutes and Shaun Hutchinson had an effort cleared off the line by Lucas Digne as Everton failed to deal with the wet and windy conditions.

The Championship team looked comfortable but gifted Everton the opener just before the break when Jordan Archer allowed a skiddy shot from Richarlison to slip through his grasp. The goal should have settled the Toffees down but Millwall struck back within two minutes.

Cooper rose highest to flick a set-piece back towards Gregory at the far post and the striker guided a precise looped header over Jordan Pickford.

With the rain getting heavier, the quality on show dropped as the game developed into a midfield battle. It seemed to be drifting but Everton substitute Tosun - linked with a January move away - made an impact by finishing sweetly after a clever pass by Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Their lead lasted only three minutes. Cooper was on hand to prod home after Pickford blocked Shane Ferguson's shot - replays showed that the defender used his arm to score but with no VAR in use, the goal stood.

Everton's response was pitiful and Millwall took advantage of their lack of quality, fight and spirit, when Wallace forced home a loose ball in the box. The Den erupted. Another Premier League side embarrassed by Neil Harris' tenacious side.
