Ritchie Sutton was on target as Morecambe claimed their first win of the Sky Bet League Two season with a narrow 1-0 victory at Macclesfield to hand home manager Daryl McMahon a loss on his debut.
The first 10 minutes saw an equal game with both sides pushing on to gain an early advantage, however, it was the Silkmen who played the better football and saw many good chances.
Theo Archibald was the closest to scoring in the first half as his effort smashed against the crossbar leaving Macclesfield fans in despair.
Macc hit the bar yet again moments later, as Morecambe goalkeeper Barry Roche pushed Fiacre Kelleher's powerful header onto the crossbar in an exciting few moments at Moss Rose.
After being under pressure by constant attack from the home side, Sutton put the Shrimps ahead in the 64th minute following an accurate cross from Steven Old.
Shortly after, Morecambe almost scored again as Shaun Miller was unlucky to see his effort hit the post after rounding Macclesfield goalkeeper Owen Evans.
