Paul Dummett's last-minute equaliser earned Newcastle a 3-3 draw with Manchester United after a thrilling Premier League contest at St James' Park on Tuesday night.
The visitors looked to be in control of the game after an early penalty from Wayne Rooney and Jesse Lingard's 38th-minute goal put them 2-0 ahead.
But Georginio Wijnaldum pulled a goal back before half-time and Aleksandar Mitrovic levelled it up with a penalty in the 67th minute.
Rooney looked to have won it for Man Utd when he restored their lead in the 79th minute, but Dummett fired home in the final minute of normal time to ensure a memorable game finished all square.
While Newcastle will be buoyed by the late strike, the Red Devils will be disappointed they didn't put the game to bed, with Marouane Fellaini spurning a great chance to make it 4-2 when he headed at Rob Elliot.
The Belgian started the match ahead of Juan Mata while Fabricio Coloccini and Jack Colback were both included in the Newcastle XI.
It was Fellaini who was involved in the opening goal as his header from a corner hit the raised arm of Chancel Mbemba. While Newcastle protested the decision, Rooney stepped up to slot the penalty past Elliot.
The goal seemed to knock the confidence of Newcastle, who had not scored in their last four matches, and Fellaini went close to a second when his shot was blocked by Dummett.
Rooney then dragged a shot across goal after being played through by Lingard, before Wijnaldum spurned Newcastle's best chance as he shot at David de Gea from Ajoze Perez's cut back.
Newcastle then had penalty appeals of their own waved away after Lingard appeared to trip Daryl Janmaat in the box.
Worse followed for the hosts in the 38th minute as Herrera slid a pass through for Rooney, who laid the ball off for Lingard and he finished past Elliot from a tight angle.
But Newcastle pulled a goal back before the break as Mitrovic headed down for Wijnaldum and he showed fantastic composure to finish with a first-time volley.
Newcastle came out with renewed optimism in the second half and went close to an equaliser as De Gea saved from Moussa Sissoko.
Lingard then wasted a good chance at the other end when he had time and space in the box, but shot over the bar.
Newcastle were given the chance to level it up when Chris Smalling was penalised for bringing down Mitrovic as the pair grappled at a corner. The striker stepped up and coolly converted the penalty.
The momentum looked to be with Newcastle as they pushed for a winner, but instead it was Rooney who drilled in a fine first-time shot from the edge of the box in the 79th minute to restore the visitors' lead.
The visitors had a chance to wrap up the points a few minutes later as Memphis Depay crossed for Fellaini, but he headed at the keeper rather than across him.
The miss proved costly as Dummett rescued a late point, firing home a shot from the edge of the box that deflected off Chris Smalling and flew past De Gea.
