      Whites stay in promotion hunt

Jonny Howson's ninth-minute goal was enough to give promotion-chasing Leeds a ninth successive home win as they beat Stockport 1-0. Leeds, still without injured leading scorer Jermaine Beckford, seized the advantage when Stockport goalkeeper Conrad Logan, on emergency loan from Leicester, stayed on his line as Jonathan Douglas crossed from the right and Howson stabbed the ball into the net from close range. Liam Dickinson, who scored 33 goals in 94 league games for Stockport before moving to Derby and later joining Leeds on loan, should have scored against his old club, but shot against the crossbar in the 18th minute. Michael Raynes cleared a header from Leeds captain Richard Naylor off the line with Stockport's goal under siege, but Leeds had to be content with a one-goal interval lead. County sent on striker Oli Johnson in place of midfielder Greg Tansey at the start of the second half, but Leeds remained the dominant force, lively substitute Andy Robinson shooting against the crossbar and the visitors have now gone five games without a goal.
